This is an area frequented with motorcycle travel, as during the wildflower season, you can find more than 5,000 varieties as you leisurely drive throughout. During her time serving as First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson played a large part in preserving the natural beauty of this area, even seeding areas along roadways with native species.
 
Communities in the area are mid-sized, where you can find a variety of property styles, some of which overlook the picturesque terrain of Hill Country.

Local Lifestyle

Hill Country has a relaxing feel due to its wide-open spaces and entertainment and recreation options. Towns in this area vary in size. Areas of Hill Country closer to Austin and along Interstate 35, particularly San Marcos, New Braunfels, Canyon Lake, and Lakeway, have populations of more than 10,000. Smaller, more quaint cities between 100 and 1,000 residents are Dripping Springs, Driftwood, and Wimberly.   
 

Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping

In Driftwood, there is The Saltlick BBQ and Hill Country Tasting Room. Nearby Dripping Springs has Epicure and Le Vacher. Wimberly Café, Gennaro's Trattoria, Italian Garden Restaurant, and Canyon Grille are other good dining options in Hill Country. 
 
Hill Country has many wineries, including Duchman Family Winery, Wimberly Valley Winery, and Limestone Terrace Winery. Dripping Springs has the Texas Hill Country Olive Co.
 
Gruene Historical District provides a unique and walkable shopping experience with establishments such as The Best Li'l Bath Haus and The Gruene G.O.A.T. For decades, Gruene Hall is the place to enjoy live music and dancing in Hill Country.
 

Things to Do

Bicentennial Park, along with adjacent Rio Vista Park and Sewell Park along the San Marcos River, offers many recreation options. San Marcos is also home to Wonder World Cave & Adventure Park. In New Braunfels is the seasonal Schlitterbahn Waterpark.  
 
Both Canyon Lake and Lake Travis are popular with both visitors and residents as they permit both motorized and nonmotorized boats. Near Wimberly are Jacob's Well Natural Area and the Double J Ranch Golf Club. Another golf option is Driftwood Golf and Ranch Club.
